1. We use compared to when we want to say one thing look like another (when two things are alike).

  • Reading a book can be compared to making a journey. (Reading a book looks like making a journey.)
  • His paintings were compared to Picasso's.
  • This island has been compared to the Galapagos Island.
  • Death is often compared to sleep.
  • The computer is often compared to the human brain.

2. We use compared with when we want to make a comparison. (examining differences and similarities)

  • Compared with my car, This Mercedes is much more luxurious.
  • There is nothing to compare with her beauty.
  • London is large, compared with Paris.
  • Compared with watching a movie on TV, going to the movies theater is more expensive.
  • Compared with swimming in a pool, swimming in the sea is more enjoyable.

3. We can also use In comparison with to make a comparison.

  • This Mercedes is much more luxurious in comparison with my car.
  • My house is so cool in comparison with the temperature outside.
  • In comparison with flying, going by bus takes longer.
  • A bear is a friendly beast in comparison with a tiger.

Wah How to use Superlative Adjectives.

We know how to compare two things in the varieties of ways.

Superlative adjective is used to describe the extreme quality of one thing in a group of things.

1. Comparative forms for one and two syllable words.
    Mary is the tallest in our family.
    The richest people are not always the happiest.
    I am not the best person in your life.
    Is Bill Gates the richest person in the world?
    Which country is the coldest country in the world?

2. Comparative forms for three or more syllable words.
    This is the most comfortable hotels in Rome.
    She is the most beautiful woman in the world.
    My mother is the most careful person in our family.
    Is Ferrari GTO the most expensive car?
    What is the most annoying song?

Note: There are some adjectives using another form:
        good -> better -> best
       bad -> worse -> worst

Wah How to use comparison of adjectives.

The comparative form is used when two things are being compared with each other.

1. Comparative forms for one and two syllable words.


Adjective + -er than


       tall -> taller
       nice -> nicer
       healthy -> healthier 
       fat -> fatter

  • You are older than me.
  • Your house is cleaner than mine
  • I got up easier than usual day.
  • Is John stronger than James?
  • Russia isn't colder than Ukraine.

Note: but there are some adjectives using another form:
       good -> better
       bad -> worse
  • He is much better than me.
  • Today is worse than yesterday, damn!

Wah How to compare things with "As"

When you would like to compare two things when they have almost or exactly the same qualities. We use...

as adj adv as - wah_wasabi_learn_English

When two things have exactly the same qualities. We can use just before as. 
    I am (just) as tall as him. (I have the same height as him.)
    It's (just) as hot as the hell.
    You can speak English as well as me.

When two things have almost the same qualities. We can use almost before as. 

    That fish is (almost) as big as me. (I am bigger, but not much bigger.)
    He is (almost) as clever as Einstein.

In the negative sentence, we can use not as adjective/adverb as in the same way as the comparative form.

    This salad is not as good as Caesar salad. (Caesar salad is better.)
    He is not as rich as Warren Buffett.

Note : We cannot use just as...as... in negative sentences.


Idiom

as bad as all that

as bad as it seems,as bad as reported,as bad as it could be (Usually expressed in the negative.) 
    Stop crying. It cannot be as bad as all that.
    Cheer up! Nothing might be as bad as all that. 

as blind as a bat

Completely blind,Very bad eyesight, Not able to see well. 
    Without his glasses he is as blind as a bat.
    It is very foggy I am as blind as bat.

as easy as pie
